Ring Resizing: When, Why, and How We Do It

Your guide to getting the perfect fit without compromising your jewellery.

A ring should fit like it was made just for you—but over time, fingers change. Whether due to weather, age, or life events, a ring that once fit perfectly can start to feel too tight or too loose. That’s where ring resizing comes in.

At Diamonds on Baylis, resizing rings is one of the most common and delicate services we offer, and our decades of experience mean your jewellery is always in safe hands.

When Should You Resize a Ring?

You may need a ring resized if:

  • It spins or slides too easily on your finger

  • You struggle to get it past your knuckle

  • It leaves deep indentations or marks after wear

  • You’ve had a change in finger size due to pregnancy, temperature, or injury

  • You've inherited a ring that doesn't fit

How Much Can a Ring Be Resized?

Most rings can be resized up or down by 2–3 sizes, depending on the design and metal. More dramatic size changes may require a remake.

What Rings Can (and Can’t) Be Resized?

✅ Commonly Resizable:

  • Yellow, white, or rose gold

  • Platinum

  • Plain or solitaire rings

  • Most traditional engagement and wedding bands

⚠️ Limited or Non-Resizable:

  • Titanium, tungsten, and stainless steel (very hard or brittle metals)

  • Full eternity bands with stones set all around

  • Intricate patterns or filigree around the entire band

Tip: All titanium and tungsten rings are non-resizable—something to consider when purchasing!

Our Resizing Process

We take a careful approach to ensure your ring maintains its shape, strength, and appearance:

  1. We assess the ring’s structure and metal type

  2. The band is either cut and adjusted by adding or removing a piece of required metal

  3. The ring is soldered, cleaned, and polished

  4. Any claws, stones, or settings are checked and tightened if needed

For white gold rings, we’ll rhodium-plate them again so the resized area matches perfectly with the rest of the band.
